It’s my understanding the BBC iPlayer add-on for Kodi is an authorized add-on from the BBC and of note, one of the first major broadcasters to get on board with the Kodi Community. This add-on comes bundled with both Fusion/TVAddons and SuperRepo Repositories however, as an official add-on it is native to the Kodi Add-on Repository as well. It should be noted, in an effort to cover their contracts and commercial licensing fees, this BBC add-on is geo-blocked. Users living outside of the the UK will require a VPN if you wish to watch any of the live or catchup tv programming.
All that aside, let’s get started;
From your home screen select;
Select Install from Repository
Select Kodi Add-on Repository
Select Video add-ons
Scroll down and look for iPlayer WWW
If you are successful, you will receive an Add-on Enabled icon in the bottom right of your screen
Navigate back to your home screen and select;
- Video Add-ons
Look for your BBC iPlayer icon and select it
And that’s it, you’re good to go! As mentioned, if you live outside of the UK you will need a VPN to view this great add-on. For those of you ready to watch, there are a couple of additional steps you can do to maximize the BBC iPlayer. Hover over the iPlayer icon and depending on your device, you can right click with your mouse or select the menu button on your remote to configure this add-on. When the pop up menu appears, select Settings
From this menu select the General tab
The General Tab will allow you to customize your iPlayer to some extent. You can enable subtitles and described video, suppress programmes with incomplete information and enable your BBC user account.
Under the Streams Tab, you can adjust your live and pre-taped source. You can adjust the bit rate and your radio settings. To be honest, I just left them at their default.
I hope this tutorial was easy to follow and got you up and running. Enjoy!
