Okay, so I installed the Ebox App work around for Android 4.4 kitkat in an effort to install Kodi 17.0 Krypton on a MyGica 380 device. I did this for a friend and found the install to be very straightforward. I’m going to walk you through the install below however, I will include my observations here. The install does not access your previous preferences (you will have to install all your repos and add-ons from scratch). The install is for Krypton 17.0 and not 17.1 or 17.3. I checked a few forums and to my knowledge, Krypton 17.1 or 17.3 update are currently not available for the Android 4.4 KitKat OS. Not sure if there are plans to release the most recent update to Krypton 17.3 anytime soon. The best solution would be one of two;
- Option 1: If your device is currently running Android 4.4 KitKat and is compatible with the 5.1 firmware update (aka. lollipop), do that first and forgo the Ebox workaround
- Option 2: If your device is not compatible for the 5.1 firmware update, bite the bullet and buy an new device (sorry!). With word of Kodi 18.0 Leia soon to be released and Kodi no longer maintaining/supporting past operating systems, you have little choice if you wish to continue to use Kodi down the road.
Lastly, users will no longer use the Kodi app to access Kodi but the EBOXMC: EBMC 4.4 app to access Krypton 17.0. Enough from me. Here’s how to install the Ebox work around for Android 4.4 OS and Kodi Krypton 17.0
From your device home screen or Apps browser window, locate the Google Play Store and select it;
Your Home Screen might look something like this
Your MyApps browser window might look something like this;
In the Google Play search field, type the following;
Look for the following app in your results and select it
When the app has completed its install, you will be prompted to Open. Do that. Alternatively, once the install is completed, you can navigate to your MyApps browser window and select the app from the list and open it from there
With the Ebox app open, look for the Menu icon and select it. This should be in the bottom left corner of your screen
From the menu options, select the one that says;
- Kodi 4.4
This is the Krypton 17.0 install download for Android 4.4 OS. Once you select this, your download should begin immediately
When the Kodi 4.4 install download is completed, you will need to navigate to your download folder to select and begin the Krypton 17.0 install. The easiest way to do this is to go back to your MyApps browser window and select the Download Folder from there.
Alternatively, you can use your File Manager to navigate to your downloads and select the Ebox Kodi 4.4 install from there. The file will say;
- EBMC 4.4 apk
Okay, home stretch! Select the EBMC 4.4 apk install and wait patiently for this to complete. Once completed, Krypton should open automatically. You can always navigate to your MyApps browser window and open it from there;
Since you will no longer use the Kodi App icon to load Kodi and will be using EBOX MC 4.4 App icon from here on out, you may want to add this to your Android home screen for your convenience.
I hope this was helpful. All the best!
